Sofitel Vieux Port takes action for the ocean with Pure Ocean!

Sofitel Vieux Port takes action for the ocean with Pure Ocean!

This prestigious hotel has teamed up with Pure Ocean to carry out concrete awareness-raising initiatives for the protection of marine biodiversity.

On the program?

💧 Until August 31, La Goutte Bleue bags will be available to invite guests to collect garbage abandoned in nature. A simple gesture to help the ocean, but above all a concrete action to raise awareness of the need to protect nature.

For each La Goutte Bleue bag, €5 will be donated to Pure Ocean to support ocean research.

🎥 The famous documentary “The Blue Quest Palawan” will be shown during a special evening on July 1. A unique opportunity to discover the inspiring work of people committed to protecting the ocean, with a focus on one of the projects we support: SHAMA, led by Frédéric Tardieu, President of Sulubaai Foundation. An evening to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the ocean while marvelling at the beauty of the Philippines. 🪸

🍸 A cocktail of commitment to a healthier ocean! All summer long, come and enjoy Deep Blue for Pure Ocean, the new signature cocktail at Le Dantès bar. A unique drink to plunge guests into the depths of the Mediterranean and shine a spotlight on its preservation.

For every cocktail ordered, €2 will be donated to scientific projects. So come and give a drop of support to the ocean!

A big THANK YOU to Sofitel for its commitment to our cause. On June 10, we gathered for the launch of this operation, an evening under the sign of benevolence – what a great way to mark the beginning of our partnership!

But that’s not all! To go even further, the hotel has given pride of place to art in its communal areas, to raise awareness of the need to preserve our blue lung. For example, Ricardo Ramos’ “HELP” sculpture, Sodeep’s underwater works, Ingrid Meucci’s captivating photographs and Henri Eskenazi’s “Vitraux de Mer”. An immersive exhibition to explore the beauty of the seabed and discover the Planete Mer association, which also supports one of our projects: Yaf Keru.

Discover our 2024 projects ➡️ Microcean 🧬

Ajoutez votre titre ici

🤯 As well as being at the base of the marine food chain, plankton are also responsible for the biological carbon pump, absorbing a considerable amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide and transporting it to the depths of the ocean!

✨ But how does it work? That’s where our new 2024 winner comes in! Microcean aspires to unravel the mysteries of plankton to better understand its essential role in climate regulation!

🧬 Scientists will sequence the genomes of planktonic species to understand their complex interactions and impact on our environment. By describing the links between these microorganisms and human beings, they will be able to enlighten us on the challenges of the deep ocean and raise awareness of the importance of the diversity of marine ecosystems.

A wonderful closing evening for Ocean Month at the Sofitel Vieux Port!

A wonderful closing evening for Ocean Month at the Sofitel Vieux Port!

Many thanks to the Sofitel Vieux Port for this initiative and fruitful partnership to protect the ocean. Together, we have been able to raise awareness through numerous actions, and this Monday, July 1, to amaze an audience at a special screening of the documentary “The Blue Quest Palawan”.

📽️ Needless to say, this wonderful documentary raises awareness by meeting people working to preserve marine biodiversity. A total immersion that highlights the importance and effectiveness of marine protected areas. The screening left a lasting impression and raised many questions. We are proud to have contributed to this collective awareness.

We would also like to thank all the participants for their presence and their enriching exchanges during the cocktail party that followed the screening. Your commitment to preserving the ocean is precious and inspiring.

Let’s continue to work for the protection of our precious blue lung, and see you soon for new preservation actions!

Start of the second OceanoScientific ADNe Méditerranée Expedition!

Start of the second OceanoScientific ADNe Méditerranée Expedition!

We’re proud to have been present at the start of the second OceanoScientific ADNe Méditerranée Expedition, as a partner of OceanoScientific! 🤝

This campaign led by the OceanoScientific association is part of the Mission BiodivMed 2023-2027, which aims to survey coastal marine biodiversity in a synchronized and standardized way under the scientific direction of the UMR Marbec – University of Montpellier.

What’s so special about this expedition? The campaign will be an opportunity to test the satellite box developed by OceanoVox, the heart of the Citizen Into Science project, supported thanks to you since 2023. Ultimately, this device will enable yachtsmen to collect oceanographic data in real time to better understand microclimates and currents on the high seas. 📡

⛵ On board, explorer Yvan Griboval, French sailor and explorer, who has carried out numerous sailing expeditions around the world, president of the OceanoScientific association. 🌏

Thank you for the invitation to this wonderful event at the Yacht Club de Monaco!

Third stage of our European project on the Greek island of Samos, in the Aegean Sea!

Third stage of our European project on the Greek island of Samos, in the Aegean Sea!

Third stage of our European project on the Greek island of Samos, in the Aegean Sea! 🌍

The ambitious aim of this work session was to prototype tools devised during previous meetings of the “Sharing Ocean Science for Responsible Businesses” project. As a reminder, the project aims to strengthen cooperation between businesses and scientists to encourage decision-makers to rely on research for sustainable practices. This key stage in the design thinking process enabled us to converge our ideas and take into account each other’s constraints.

🗣️ Before the meeting, interviews were conducted to gain a better understanding of our targets’ expectations and constraints. Pooling and analyzing these interviews enabled us to pinpoint the common challenges faced by companies and scientists.

🎯 The major issues? Lack of time and available resources are a major brake on change and the perspective needed for transition. Our thinking has therefore focused on creating effective, scalable tools that enable meaningful long-term action while meeting the needs of each company.

💡 We look forward to presenting our findings at our next European meeting!

📅 You can already mark the date of October 17 in your diaries for our big closing and presentation event to be held in Marseille!

Many thanks to Archipelagos for their warm welcome and immersion in the daily life of a major player in ocean science and protection. This experience also gave us the opportunity to visit the site of the Protecting Aegean Coralligenous project, winner of the 2021 prize, and the bearer of so many hopes for the conservation of the Mediterranean Sea. A setting conducive to creativity and inspiration!

Happy birthday to the Ocean & Climate Platform!

Happy birthday to the Ocean & Climate Platform!

Last Thursday, part of the team took part in POC’s 10th anniversary, a landmark event bringing together international players in the ocean community, organized by POC and IOC-UNESCO.

10 years ago, despite its central role in regulating the planet’s climate, the Ocean was THE great absentee from intergovernmental negotiations on climate change. Thanks to the collective commitment of the Ocean-Climate Platform team and its community of scientific, economic and institutional members, the ocean is now an integral part of national climate strategies.

Together, we celebrated a decade of action for the Ocean, Climate and Biodiversity, and discussed future priorities, including the 3rd UN Conference on the Ocean in 2025 and the UN Decade of Ocean Sciences.

Taking advantage of the prestigious UNESCO stage in Paris, the assembly reiterated the crucial need to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG14 on the conservation and sustainable use of oceans and marine resources. Olivier Poivre d’Arvor highlighted a number of areas for action, such as sharing regional visions of the ocean, taking local populations more fully into account, and essential collaboration with civil society players, citizens and businesses.

The event also provided an opportunity for a warm reunion with our partners and project leaders, such as Under the Pole (GENESIS project) and Victor Brun (SHAMA project).

Well done and thank you to Romain Troublé, Loreley Picourt, Françoise Gail, Anaïs Desprez, the entire POC team, and all the members of the member community for their determination and conviction: a healthy ocean is essential to our resilience and is our best ally in the face of today’s challenges.

The team set out to discover marine biodiversity!

The team set out to discover marine biodiversity!

We were lucky enough to dive into the heart of our beautiful Mediterranean Sea with the club le bateau jaune, to encounter a fascinating and colorful underwater world. A first for some of the team, who were making their baptism! 🐠

You don’t have to go far to discover underwater wonders! The Mediterranean abounds with treasures to explore.

Bonus? Our scientific coordinator Charlie was able to teach us more and more about this exceptional biodiversity!

This teambuilding experience enabled us to strengthen our ties and our commitment to protecting the ocean. Contact with nature is essential to better understand and preserve it.

Why not take advantage of the benefits of nature and its biodiversity to recharge your batteries and marvel? Take the time to discover its wonders.

When poetry meets the ocean…

When poetry meets the ocean...

On June 30, the skippers cast off for the Transat Québec Saint Malo of which we are a partner, taking with them a precious cargo: poems born of the “A bottle to the sea” competition, which we had the pleasure of sponsoring.

This competition, on the theme of “The St. Lawrence and the Ocean, so big, so fragile”, gave everyone the chance to celebrate the beauty and fragility of our ocean through words. Now, these poems are crossing the Atlantic, carried by the waves and the courage of the sailors.

As a partner of the Transat Québec Saint-Malo, we are proud to support this event and contribute to this poetic and committed initiative.

We’ll be present at the finish village in Saint-Malo to share our scientific projects and our commitment to preserving the ocean.

May this poetic journey inspire each and every one of us to take care of our beautiful ocean!
