BERMUDA LORIENT – PURE OCEAN CHALLENGE
Crossing the Atlantic to raise awareness of the need for ocean preservation
EDITION 2023
The Pure Ocean Challenge will be back in May 2023 for its 4th edition, a race between Bermuda and Lorient. This year, boats taking part include: Jean-Pierre Dick on his ” JP54 ‘Our Mediterranean – Ville de Nice “, Vincent Willemart’s TS42 ” Banzai ” and Jacques Valente on his 42ft trimaran “Be Creative”.
BERMUDA LORIENT – PURE OCEAN CHALLENGE, organised by PURE OCEAN, ABSOLUTE DREAMER and ADVANCED TRACKING is a transatlantic sailing challenge, open to all types of boats, with several objectives:
- beat the reference times,
- raise public awareness of the ocean and the need to protect it,
- collect scientific data to help protect the ocean,
- raise funds for ocean research.
To get involved in the preservation of the ocean, fundraising campaigns for ocean research has been set up online. Join us to help with our vital work !

Jean-Pierre Dick and his crew won this transatlantic race on the “JP54 Notre Méditerranée Ville de Nice” with a record time of 11 days 8 hours 38 minutes and 23 seconds, beating the reference time of 12 days 23 hours and 28 minutes set in 1979 for monohulls.
On the multihull side, Vincent Willemart and his crew won this transatlantic race on the “Banzaï” with a record time of 11 days 13 hours 53 minutes and 8 seconds! The previous crossing time of 12 days 23 hours and 16 minutes was set 40 years ago by Eugène Riguidel and Jean-François le Menec.
