Tomorrow sees the start of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR). What are you going to do in your company?

As you know, waste, particularly plastic waste, poses a major risk to our health. Today, we’re highlighting 2 scientific projects, supported by our patrons, that are taking a closer look at this pollution. ⤵️

🔬 PlastiDrugs: This project studies the interaction between microplastics and emerging pollutants (such as endocrine disruptors and antibiotics) to assess their combined chemical effects. Tests are being carried out in Brest Bay and Santos Bay in Brazil to determine the impact on filter-feeding marine organisms such as mussels and oysters, which are often consumed by humans. The aim: to provide essential data to better protect ecosystems and public health.

🧬 Synsen: Plasticosis, a disease linked to the ingestion of microplastics, causes dangerous cell proliferation in seabirds. The SynSen team had discovered this disease in a project previously supported by Pure Ocean. Now the scientists will study the effects of microplastics on DNA, to understand the impact on cellular aging and ecosystem health.

➡️ To best protect our blue lung and our health, we need to really understand these threats. Scientific research, allows us to study these pollutions and obtain data to strengthen public policies in waste management.
